A French patinated bronze bust of Ariadne by F. Barbedienne foundry after the antique.

The fine ‘reduction a colis’ is after a model by Bertel Thorvaldsen (c. 1805-1810). This sole bust is often paired with a famous antique bust of Antinous which is now in the Fitzwilliam Museum.

Signed “F. BARBEDIENNE. FONDEUR,” seal inscribed with “REDUCTION MECHANIQUE A. COLLAS BREVETE,”

Attributed to Michelangelo Maestri (Italian, d. 1812)
