19th C. French Simulated Bamboo Armoire
Wonderfully whimsical late 19th-century French faux bamboo armoire, created in the exotic tradition with inspiration from the far east. All the borders and edging carved and finished as bamboo. Its rustic appearance hides the fact that it is not made of bamboo which would have been much easier to finish.
The large single mirrored faux bamboo armoire door opening to two shelves with mouldings. The backboard stamped by the maker Chaillet, A Paris. The pedimented upper with faux split cane ornament, finials at the corners and projecting bamboo at the apex.
