Italy, circa 1780
A pair of white painted and gilt baluster torcheres of North Italian origin. These torcheres are designed as candle stands and are both armed with substantial iron spikes to hold equally substantial candles. Each raised on splayed circular bases and three gilt balls as feet.
The white painted surface of these torcheres is original, as the highly figured and detailed surface reveals with is significant crazing and cracking.
