Paul Sormani(1817-1877) – Magnificent French 19th century gilt bronze ormolu and Lapis Lazuli wall clock. Richly decorated with panels of gilt bronze in high relief flanked by classical symbolism, floral garlands and winged putti around a central panel of lapis lazuli having an eight day chiming movement, the white enamel dial with Roman Numerals and a chapter ring for minutes.

Paul Sormani Ormolu Wall Clock in Lapis Lazuli and Gold

Born in Venice, Paul Sormani (1817-1877) was a cabinetmaker and supplier of exceptional work of art. His gallery was based at 7 cemetery Saint Nicolas, then in 1854 at 114 rue du Temple, then in 1867 at 10 rue Charlot in Paris. He won a bronze medal in 1849 at the exposition of the Second Republic in Paris.

His style is based on the 18th century and he made a broad range of exceptional pieces for private collectors as well as the court including The Empress Eugenie, wife of Napoleon III.
